The beauty of nature has always captivated me whenever I’m on a hike. But I had a different feeling that time, I was completely mesmerised by the view you’re looking at right now. What made this track so special was those very memorable “first time”s.
Witnessing my very first snowfall was somehow emotional. For those who stay in country that are practically summer all year round and have never experienced winter, it really is a magical moment to feel the snow falling on your face from the sky.
My first Kea’s encounter. Kea is the world’s only endangered alpine parrot, which I had learned to know about the parrot when I came across a hut that was named after this amazing creature. On my second day of hike after few hours down the road, we heard some long high-pitched cries, we looked up in the sky and there were like 4 or 5 Keas flying and spreading their colourful wings. I fall in love with them ever since.
Not worth mentioning, I chopped woods the first time for fire to keep us warm for the night. We had rainy, snowy and sunny weather for 3 days respectively.
This hike was never on the list of my travel plan in South Island, it was all because of @bellacheng23 who insisted and brought me to this wonderful place. Thankyou friend.
Won’t take much effort to say this: Routeburn Track, the most beautiful track in New Zealand to me so far.
